Since the 2019/2020 school year, the Académie Camerounaise des Formations (ACF), an association based in Bafoussam (West region of Cameroon) has helped hundreds of children to return to school and, above all, to succeed in terms of their education. These are children who fled with their parents, mainly their mothers, from the anglophone regions of Cameroon, South-West and North-West, due to the crisis that has been going on there since the end of 2016.

This is the fifth ACF is launching this project that should no longer be necessary in this form. Even though we started in 2019, we did so in the hope that the crisis we were responding to - at least in its acute state - would soon come to an end.

However, in our daily work we realised that there are still newly arriving internal displaced persons (IDPs) who flee for current reasons (i.e. because of recent attacks, kidnappings, shootings, etc.), or because any hope for change has been lost. In addition to these new arrivals, there are thousands of IDPs here in Bafoussam who, even after several years, have not really settled down and cannot accept that their lives and futures are now here.

More than 570,000 refugees are displaced in their own country, of which about 85,000 are in the West Region with the capital Bafoussam alone. More than 3,200 schools in the North-West and South-West are not functioning due to the ongoing crisis. Attacks on schools and health facilities continue.
