Madagascar face aux impacts du changement climatique

Madagascar fait aujourd'hui partie des 10 pays les plus vulnérables face aux impacts du changement climatique. L'île subit régulièrement cyclones plus intenses, inondations mais aussi des vagues de sécheresse.

La région Androy,dans l'extrême Sud du pays, est particulièrement affectée par une sécheresse à l'origine d'une crise humanitaire sans précédent dans le pays dans une zone déjà très pauvre et isolée. Bien que subissant la sécheresse depuis 40 ans, les effets du changement climatique ont accru les inégalités et les atteintes aux droits humains. Ils ont accéléré une famine et malnutrition chronique touchant plus d'un million de personnes aujourd'hui, malgré la forte mobilisation de nombreux acteurs sur le terrain ,ONG internationales, système des Nations Unies et gouvernement.

Qui sommes-nous ?

Le Madlab et le Réseau Climat Océan Indien (RCOI) sont deux mouvements malgaches rassemblant acteurs de la société civile, chercheurs, entrepreneurs sociaux, jeunes militants, représentants de communautés locales, partageant une même vision, celle de donner la voix aux communautés locales pour des solutions à impacts sur le court et long termes.

Que faisons-nous ?

• En 2021, MADLab a mis en place un symposium pour réunir des spécialistes et des acteurs locaux analysant ensemble les modèles de développement. Le think tank laisse en effet le soin aux communautés décider de la manière d'aller de l'avant, cela en facilitant le processus et en renversant ainsi l'approche conventionnelle du développement et faire confiance aux communautés locales capable d'exprimer au mieux leurs propres problèmes. Actuellement, il accompagne des lycéens dans la réalisation de projets d'accès à l'eau et aux énergies renouvelables au sein de leurs communautés dans les régions d'Anosy et d'Androy
• Le RCOI met en place depuis Septembre 2021 le premier Centre de recherche, de formation et d'innovation dédié à la Justice climatique à Madagascar dans la région Androy. Le réseau forme depuis des années des jeunes en valorisant leurs initiatives face aux impacts climatiques à travers des formations en plaidoyer, des sensibilisations et autres formations plus techniques. Il a notamment formé cette année une quarantaine d'associations locales( associations de jeunes, associations de femmes) ainsi que des autorités locales dans la région Androy sur les questions climatiques et de genre.

Nous prenons compte en effet la résilience et la force des communautés locales en valorisant notamment leurs solutions d'adaptation aux impacts du changement climatique.Nous visons particulièrement des organisations locales de femmes et de jeunes, des projets inclusifs et qui n'ont pas besoin de beaucoup de financement pour être mis à l'échelle.

Comment nous aider ?

Contribuez au "UP Fund", un fond dédié à l'accompagnement des organisations locales ayant un impact positif pour leur communauté.

Votre contribution permettra en effet :

• Un accompagnement d'un an de 10 mini projets portés par des organisations locales
• Un appui technique et la mise à disposition d'experts et de volontaires pour les communautés
• La participation active des communautés locales dans l'élaboration, la gestion et la mise en œuvre des solutions adoptées
• Une stratégie de durabilité des projets réfléchie avec la mise en place de modèle économique
• La valorisation de petits projets à impacts qui peuvent être dupliqués à une large échelle
• La valorisation de l'innovation à travers l'implication de chercheurs locaux et internationaux
• La maximisation des financements reçus pour être investis quasi totalement dans la mise en œuvre du projet (en évitant les frais administratifs élevés associés aux modèles traditionnels ou à grande échelle des ONG internationales).

Ensemble, nous entendons mettre en place un comité de suivi et de soutien de ces mini projets.

Madagascar facing the impacts of climate change

Madagascar is currently one of the 10 most vulnerable countries to the impacts of climate change and subjected regularly to intense cyclones, floods and droughts.

The Androy region, in the extreme south of the country, is particularly affected by a drought that has caused an unprecedented humanitarian crisis in an already impoverished and isolated area. Although it has been suffering from regular droughts for 40 years, the effects of climate change have intensified them in recent years and most notably increased inequality and human rights abuses.

Who are we?MADLab and the Indian Ocean Climate Network (IOCN) are two Malagasy movements bringing together civil society actors, researchers, social entrepreneurs, young activists, and local community representatives who share a common vision of giving voice to local communities for short and long term impact solutions.

What do we do?

• In 2021 MADLab established a symposium to bring together a mix of specialists and local residents to look at development and situations from the community’s perspective - letting communities decide on how to move forward and facilitating this process. Effectively turning the conventional development approach on its head and trusting people to understand their own issues best. Currently it accompanies high school students in the realization of projects of access to water and renewable energies within their communities in the Anosy and Androy regions.

• In September 2021, RCOI set up the first Research, Training and Innovation Center dedicated to Climate Justice in Madagascar in the Androy region. Additionally, the network has been training young people for many years by promoting their initiatives in the face of climate impact and by sharing advocacy and technical skills. In particular, this year it has trained some more than local associations ( youth associations/women's associations) and local authorities in the Androy region on climate and gender issues.

We take into account the resilience and strength of local communities by valuing their solutions to adapt to the impacts of climate change. We particularly target local women's and youth organizations, inclusive projects that do not need a lot of funding to be scaled up.

How can you help us?

Contribute to the "UP Fund", a fund dedicated to trusting and supporting local people to manage projects that have a positive impact for their community.Your contribution will provide:One year of support for 10 mini-projects led by local associations

• Technical support and the provision of experts and volunteers for the communities
• The active participation of local communities in the development, management and implementation of adopted solutions
• A strategy of sustainability of the projects thought out with the implementation of an economic model
• The valorization of small impact projects that can be duplicated on a large scale
• The valorization of innovation through the involvement of local and international researchers
• The maximization of funding received to be invested almost entirely in the implementation of the project (avoiding hefty admin fees associated with traditional or large scale INGO models)
