Die Refugee Law Clinic Berlin e.V. bietet unabhängige Rechts- und Asylverfahrensinformation für Schutzsuchende in dem Hotspot auf der griechischen Insel Samos an. Nach fast zwei Jahren läuft die Finanzierung unseres Projekts Ende 2019 aus. Bitte helft uns, das Projekt am Leben zu erhalten und unsere Arbeit auch im kommenden Jahr fortzuführen.

Im März 2018 eröffnete die Refugee Law Clinic Berlin einen Standort auf Samos. Seitdem unterstützten wir mehr als tausend Schutzsuchende in ihrem Asylverfahren im Rahmen von Anhörungsvorbereitung und bei der Familienzusammenführung innerhalb Europas. Noch mehr Menschen haben wir durch unsere Gruppen-Workshops erreicht. Das von uns aufgebaute Legal Center Samos ist zur Hauptanlaufstelle für unabhängige rechtliche Hilfe auf der Insel geworden. Ermöglicht wurde diese Arbeit durch die große Einsatzbereitschaft von zahlreichen freiwilligen Berater*innen und Übersetzer*innen aus ganz Europa.

Leider läuft die bisherige Förderung des Projekts zum Ende des Jahres aus. Dies kommt zu einer Zeit, in der sich die Situation auf der Insel weiter zuspitzt. Derzeit befinden sich ca. 6.400 Geflüchtete in dem überfüllten Hotspot auf Samos, der offiziell eine Kapazität von 648 Plätzen hat. Die Hälfte sind Frauen und Minderjährige, darunter ca. 1.400 Kinder unter zwölf Jahren. Vor wenigen Wochen wurde ein Teil des Camps durch ein Feuer zerstört. Derweil kündigt die neue griechische Regierung verkürzte Verfahren und schnellere Abschiebungen in die Türkei an. Dort drohen vielen Geflüchteten Gewalt, Verfolgung und weitere unrechtmäßiger Abschiebungen, insbesondere nach Syrien.

Angesichts dieser Entwicklungen ist rechtliche Unterstützung wichtiger denn je. Um das unmittelbare Überleben des Projekts bis Ende April 2020 sicherzustellen, benötigen wir 12.000 Euro.

The Refugee Law Clinic Berlin e.V. provides independent legal information to applicants of international protection in the Hotspot on the Greek island of Samos. After almost two years, the project will run out of funding at the end of this year. Please help us with your donation to keep our legal information project alive and enable us to continue our work also in 2020.

In March 2018, Refugee Law Clinic Berlin opened an office on Samos. Since then, we have assisted more than a thousand individual applicants in their asylum procedure and the reunification with family members across Europe. We have reached even more people with group workshops. We established the Legal Centre Samos, which has become a focal point for independent legal aid on Samos. The success of this work has been enabled by the great commitment of countless volunteer counsellors and translators from all over Europe.

Unfortunately, the funding of the project expires at the end of this year. This comes as the situation of refugees on Samos is deteriorating. Some 6.400 refugees are currently residing in the hotspot, exceeding its official capacity (648) by nearly ten times. Women and children account for half of the camp’s population, among them 1.400 children under twelve years of age. A few weeks ago, parts of the camp were destroyed in a fire. In the meantime, the new Greek government is planning to increase deportations to Turkey, where many applicants are subject to violence, persecution or further unlawful deportation.

In this situation legal assistance will become more relevant than ever before. To secure the immediate survival of the project, we are in need of 12.000 € until the end of April 2020.
