Support the residents of Ohlauer School!

You can evict a square, you can evict a school but you can't evict a movement!

The Gerhart-Hauptmann-Schule, symbol of the Refugee Movement in Berlinand in Germany, has been evicted on January 11th, 2018. The school in Ohlauer Straße in Berlin Kreuzberg was squatted in December 2012 by refugee activists fighting for freedom of movement for all, against deportations, for the closure of all lagers and for the abolishment of Residenzpflicht. The remaining residents of the school, who were evicted on January 11th, are still fighting for the same political goals. Now they need support to continue the struggle for their own right to stay and for the right to stay for all.

After the Freedom March and setting up the protest camp at Oranienplatz, activists of the Refugee Movement in cooperation with the movement against gentrification, forced evictions, displacement and capitalist city politics squatted the south part of the building of the former Gerhart-Hauptmann-Schule in Ohlauer street. The school was a shelter to many people; it was a political meeting space, as well as a center wherefood, clothes, language, financial, medical and legal support wasorganised; and the place where groups such as the International Women Space (IWS https://iwspace.wordpress.com/) formed themselves. It became central to the Refugee Movement, sparking solidarity protests such as the Schul- und Unistreik gegen Rassismus (https://refugeeschulstreik.wordpress.com/) and raising awareness about the conditions for refugees in Germany and Europe.

The struggles, which the school was standing for, continue here and in the whole world. The German asylum law has been increasingly tightening since 2012. In Europe migration is criminalised and more and more people are being deported: most nights, unannounced police raids around the city take people against their will on deportation planes. The continuous fortification of Europe's borders is killing people in the Mediterranean Sea. In Lybia Black people are being detained, tortured, sold and enslaved. Let us be in solidarity on face of these systems of oppression!

The money is needed to cover the rent for the people after the eviction; to cover lawyer expenses, living costs and the health care of some ofthe residents in more precarious situations and further expenses concerning the formerly squatted school and the resistance.

Die Gerhart-Hauptmann-Schule, Symbol des Refugee Movements in Berlin, wurde am 11. Januar 2018 geräumt. Im Dezember 2012 war die Schule in der Ohlauer Straße in Berlin Kreuzberg von Refugee Aktivist_innen besetzt worden. Sie kämpften für Bewegungsfreiheit, gegen Abschiebungen, sowie für die Abschaffung des Lagersystems und der Residenzpflicht. Die letzten Bewohner, die am 11. Januar geräumt wurden, kämpfen nach wie vor sowohl für ein Bleiberecht für sich selbst als auch für ein Bleiberecht für alle.

Nach dem Freedom March und dem Aufbau des Protestcamps am Oranienplatz hatten Aktivist_innen aus dem Refugee-Movement den Südflügel der ehemaligen Gerhart-Hauptmann-Schule in der Ohlauer Straße besetzt, in Kooperation mit Aktivist_innen aus der Bewegung gegen Gentrifizierung, Zwangsräumungen, Verdrängung und kapitalistische Stadtpolitik. Die Schule war ein Zufluchtsort für viele Menschen, sie war ein politischer Treffpunkt und ein Zentrum, in dem Essen, Kleidung, Sprachkurse, zudem finanzieller, medizinischer und rechtlicher Support organisiert wurden. Sie ist auch der Ort, an dem sich Gruppen wie der International Women's Space gegründet haben (IWS https://iwspace.wordpress.com/). Die Schule wurde ein zentraler Ort für das Refugee Movement und sie hat solidarische Proteste wie den Schul- und Unistreik gegen Rassismus inspiriert (https://refugeeschulstreik.wordpress.com/) und viele für die Lebensbedingungen von Refugees in Deutschland und Europa sensibilisiert.

Die Kämpfe, für die die Schule stand, gehen weiter. Hier und auf der ganzen Welt. Das deutsche Asylrecht wurde seit 2012 immer weiterverschärft. Migration wurde in Europa kriminalisiert und mehr und mehr Leute werden abgeschoben: Fast jede Nacht finden an verschiedenen Orten der Stadt unangekündigte Polizei-Razzien statt und Leute werden gegen ihren Willen in Abschiebefliegern verschleppt. Die kontinuierliche Abschottung von Europas Grenzen tötet Menschen im Mittelmeer. In Libyen werden Schwarze Menschen festgehalten, gefoltert, verkauft und versklavt. Lasst uns angesichts dieser Unterdrückungssysteme solidarisch sein!

Das Geld wird gebraucht, um Miete für die Leute nach der Räumung zu bezahlen, um Anwalts- und Lebenshaltungskosten zu begleichen, medizinische Versorgung für einige der Bewohner in besonders prekären Situationen zu gewährleisten und für einige weitere Ausgaben, die die ehemals besetzte Schule und den Widerstand der Bewohner betreffen.
