Help Out Mo Turner in Chamonix

Aidez Mo Turner à traverser une période difficile

Bonjour!

Beaucoup d’entre vous connaissent Mo Turner, qui est dans la vallée depuis bien plus de 30 ans.

Mo a aidé beaucoup d’entre nous depuis des années : que ce soit par des conseils amicales ou ses services indispensables à nos amis à quatre pattes aussi bien que sa générosité à partager son espace bien-être en bas de chez elle; entre autres aux adeptes de yoga.

Ses années de générosité ont contribué à tisser des liens amicaux entre nous tous.

Comme beaucoup d’entre nous à Chamonix, Mo est auto-entrepreneuse.

Á l’arrivée du Covid, elle n’a été aidée qu’au premier confinement en mars 2020. Depuis, son activité liée au tourisme est gravement touchée par cette crise sanitaire qui n’en finit plus.

Pour couronner le tout : Ce mois-ci, Mo a subit des catastrophes qui l’a laisse démuni face à une situation de vie très difficile.

• Premièrement, sa chaudière au fioûle pourtant entretenue chaque année avec soins vient de tomber en panne à l’aube des fêtes de Noël.

Elle n’a plus d’eau chaude ni de radiateurs.

La réparation va coûter quelques milliers d’euros.

Actuellement, elle ne se chauffe qu’au poêle à bois et quelques radiateurs au pétrole qui maintient la maison a à peine 12°C.

• Pour en rajouter une couche, mi-décembre, Mo est tombée sur la glace et s’est fracturé l’épaule.

Elle a été opérée et a besoin d’au moins 8 semaines de convalescence.

Elle ne peut donc plus travailler pendant cette période qui est la plus lucrative de l’année.

• En apprenant les nouvelles nous avons décidé de créer un fond d’aides pour notre chère amie pour qu’elle soit au chaud dans sa propre maison et qu’elle se rétablisse dans de dignes conditions.

Comment pouvez-vous aidez?

Mo ne demanderait jamais du soutien financier.

Donc, nous (quelques amis de Mo) avons décider de créer une cagnotte en ligne afin de l’aider à passer ce moment difficile.

Please Help Mo Turner through a tough break (literally)

Hello ! Many of you know and love Mo Turner, a UK ex pat who has lived in Chamonix for over 30 years.

Mo has helped so many others over the years - whether that be with her cheerful advice, reliable dog walking and dog sitting services and of course, allowing the generous use of her lovely downstairs space in her home for various yogis and meditation classes for the past many years.

She has gifted much to our local community with her generous spirit.

Like many in our town, Mo is a self employed person.

She already had a rough time the past couple of years due to losses of work during Covid but was still making ends meet, even if only just, thanks to the French government aid extending to the self-employed who could not work due to Covid regulations ...

Oh dear ... What happened ??

• This month Mo has been struck by a few unfortunate events that leave her in dire need of a decent sum of money in order to stay warm and regain her health this winter.

• Firstly her old house has an old boiler which has decided to give up the ghost. This repair was already going to be a challenge even with a steady set of clients already booked in for the busy winter season.

The repair bill for the boiler will be several thousand (it feeds the home's radiators and is over 30 years old). This repair will keep it going for another winter at least. But ideally, the house needs another boiler system.

Without the boiler, Mo currently only has heat from a small wood burner and a couple of local oil heaters. Her house is running between 7-12C lately.

• To make matters worse, in mid December, Mo fell on the ice and hurt her shoulder. At first thought she dislocated it. However, she found out at the hospital that not only was it broken, but the top of her humerus was actually shattered.

Mo underwent surgery and now has returned home with a plate in her arm.

The recovery will be a good 8 weeks at least.

And Mo needs her arm for her work dog walking and cleaning flats.

So- she cannot work for at least two months, perhaps more depending upon the physio and doctor visits -- during the busiest time of the year for her.

• Other parts of her house urgently need repairs especially given her medical situation

Reinforcing the handrails on her stairways would really help - especially while she only has the use of one arm.

She has friends who do carpentry and plumbing willing to help her out for reduced prices or for free - and we are doing what we can. But we have a cash shortage for the parts.

A new boiler system would cost 11-20,000 according to quotes that she received last year. This is because her current type of system (powered by fuel oil) is no longer legal to replace with the same type of system and so must be re-worked. From January 2022 the new anti-pollution regulations forbid installing new fuel oil systems.

So knowing all this - we decided to create an appeal to gather funds to help our dear friend stay warm and in her home.

Mo has a some personal insurance that is helping with bringing food and home help and physio visits for her medical recovery - and her two sons are now home to help cook for her and keep the house.

But the insurance will not help her recover from with the massive income loss she now faces during the normally busiest time of year for her business -- nor will it help get her the extra money she needs to repair or replace her boiler.

How can you Help ?

Mo would never ask for money from anyone.

Hence her good friends are doing this for her, absolutely behind her back and surely against her wishes !!

She does not have a Facebook account and so we will be spreading the word as much as possible on that platform and by word of mouth. We have her bank account details and will be transferring this money we gather into her account, whether she likes it or not :-) !!

So - if this appeal reaches you - please please - help out Mo with whatever you can spare to add to the pot to help her pay for these urgent repairs to her home so she can stay warm and safe this winter while she recovers from this injury, and to help make up for the income loss she faces now on top of two years of reduced work already due to Covid.
