19/04/2020 UPDATED: TARGET IS RAISED FROM 330 TO 480 EUR, to include additional filament, disposable gloves and PVC sheets I need for the face shield manufacturing to help local hospitals and clinics fight the beer flu :-(
==========================
You know that I support several NGO throughout my time. Some are in the area of 3D printing. These awesome people share their brains, designs and machines for life improvement in challenged resource areas and people in need.
During these challenging times, hospitals are asking Pro and amateur 3D printers to collaborate with some of their approved designs, when standard supply cannot deliver eg. mask frames, tubes, etc.
I know I can help with my time! But I dont have a printer.
I want to spent the following weeks of "Social Distancing" in a useful way, by perfecting my basic knowledge and build useful things in 3D. My current coaching activity is volunteer-based, that's why I cannot afford to buy the printer and some rolls of filament (the raw material) to start on my own.
The printer is a low-cost "Ender 3 Pro" valued at 234 EUR, each roll of filament is ~25 EUR.
With just 1-click you can support my project. Give however much you want; every euro or dollar brings me closer. I will buy it even if I cannot reach the full 330 EUR I need, and use some emergency savings if needed.
Thank you, Hans

More than a month passed since the printer arrived, and I can tell you it did not stop producing a single day (and some nights). It came at the right time to volunteer to a 3D-printing movement in France. I managed to print over 300 anti-projection shields and chirurgical mask straps for the Protection Civile Paris Seine and some nursing homes since I have joined the https://www.visieresolidaire.org volunteer 3D-printing farm initiative. It seems I can now officially call myself a “Maker” as per the 3D-print jargon
In addition to printing a lot of shields, I have tested some less critical prototypes like adaptive finger splints, plant pots, masks and articulated toys as you can see on the picture. I further trained my design skills retouching and creating prototypes on the very simple and free ThinkerCAD program.
UPGRADES: Some parts I produce can take up to 15 hours to print, and the printer is quite noisy. To maintain this incredible momentum in the unexpected volunteering activity, I need to print overnight to gain productivity. Early May I ordered a small upgrade from China that replaces some of the printer’s entry-level electronics and stability springs (, as well as a simple electronic calliper to help in my design process. I look into the mailbox every morning.
BUILD: I will continue to produce anti-projection shields and chirurgical mask straps for as long as the current pandemic state continues and groups like Protection Civile Paris Seine and some nursing homes are in need of this type of material.
SKILLS: I feel pretty cool with printer calibration, troubleshooting, handling mid-print filament changes. Hours of reading material on youtube, and experience you gain by failing a lot. As soon as I feel better with my design level in ThinkerCAD, I expect to go to the next level with AutoDesk Fusion360. They have a Maker or StartUp free licence I could apply for, and I look into creating some cool and useful stuff.
FUNDING: I bought all the basics and more with your current donations. I seek at least additional 135 EUR funding to purchase more raw material for the volunteer work and for experiments, and to cover the cost for the silencer upgrade (52,13 EUR) and calliper (23,99 EUR) and some minor accessories. PLA filament are finally dropping price after the initial crisis outrageous prices. If you feel over-generous, we could speak of your sponsorship to buy an additional printer?
Remember that all that I manufacture and goes to hospitals or NGOs is a volunteer activity, and we do not receive any payment for the activity nor material.
THANK YOU for your awesome, amazing, spectacular and bold support, you encourage me to go ahead with this crazy project
Hello adventurers
Great news! The printer arrived short after my previous message to you, and on April 8th I was preparing the table to assemble the machine and give it a first try. As with many low-cost hardware, this is DIY (Do It Youself), and I had a lot of fun reviewing some forums for good advise before unboxing and getting to the screwdriver.
I started printing some basic geometric figures and "MODs" (modifications or add-ons for the printer to make it better and easier to handle). Thanks to great online tutorials, the first print came out super neat. Second too. And the third was a charm, so I guess it was more than beginners luck. I did all those test prints with the small white sample PLA filament (remember, the cornstarch-based raw material that is fully biodegradable?) that came with the machine.
The two filament spools would arrive only two weeks later, so I had to chase for immediate options, network in Paris, import from Spain or Germany, and finally somebody sold me one of his stock filaments - unfortunately price and urgent delivery service within Paris were as high as 39,15 EUR. The bright side is that I could start creating face-shields straight away as well as some chirurgical mask neck supports which some of you already tested. The other two spools now finally arrived, and I am in full production of the frames thanks to your awesomenes.
I will leave this money pot open to collect ADITIONAL 90 EUR, to buy 1 box of 100 XL disposable gloves (15 EUR) I need to manipulate the hospital face-shields, 200 x transparent 250 microns acetate sheets (2 x 12 EUR) for the face shields, and 2 additional filaments spools (2 x 25 EUR). Remember all that goes to the hospitals is volunteer and we do not receive any payment for what we give them.
I am also in touch with groups like http://covid3d.fr and http://visieresolidaire.org. They are helping "makers" (we, the printers) to coordinate efforts and distribute the face-shields to hospitals and eventually get some material.
