From Saarbrooklyn to New York... and back again!

Hallo,

mein Name ist Benjamin Kelm und ich bin Schauspieler aus Saarbrücken. Vor zwei Jahren habe ich mich für die Teilnahme bei den „World Championships of Performing Arts“ in Los Angeles qualifiziert und durfte für Deutschland im Schauspiel antreten. 

Die Weltmeisterschaften waren eine einmalige Erfahrung und ich habe die Zeit sehr genossen. Schließlich bin ich mit sechs Silbermedaillen (höchste Jurybewertung) und einem Industry-Award aus dem Wettbewerb gegangen.

Ein Tag wird mir für immer besonders in Erinnerung bleiben. Ich habe an einem Vorsprechen teilgenommen und direkt nach der Audition wurde mir ein Stipendium für das „The New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts“ (u. a. haben Jacob Batalon -Spiderman: Homecoming, Matthew Fox - Lost oder Vicky Jeudy - Orange ist the new black, dort ihre Ausbildung absolviert) zugesagt. 

Mein Studium habe ich letztes Jahr im August begonnen und mein erstes Jahr erfolgreich abgeschlossen. Nun wurde ich zum zweiten und letzten Jahr eingeladen.

Die Zeit in New York war bisher wirklich ein Abenteuer: Begonnen mit einer nicht funktionierenden Kreditkarte, unlieben "Haustieren", bis hin zu einem Einbruch bei mir in der Wohnung.

Doch es sind auch viele wunderbare Dinge passiert, wie ein spontaner Auftritt in einem Improtheater, lange und ausführliche Erkundungen in New York, das Vortragen von meinen Gedichten, das Schreiben neuer Gedichte und den Anfang meines neuen Buches, das Besuchen von Theaterstücken und Musicals,... aber vor allem mein Studium am "New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts".

Es war bisher eine unglaublich intensive Zeit, doch so erfüllend, ermutigend und inspirierend, dass sich jede Strapaze ausgezahlt hat. Ich weiß, dass das mein Weg ist und ich für die Schauspielerei lebe.

Doch um meinen Abschluss im Mai 2020 machen zu können, brauche ich deine Hilfe. Denn als internationaler Student darf ich in Amerika nicht arbeiten und einen Bildungskredit zu erhalten, ist für mich auch nicht möglich.

Pro Jahr wird eine Studiengebühr von $32,100 erhoben. Mit meinem Stipendium sind mir $12.000 pro Jahr zugesichert. Neben den Studiengebühren kommen noch Kosten für mein Zimmer sowie Lebensunterhalt hinzu.

Jetzt bin ich in meinen Semesterferien zurück in Deutschland und arbeite so viel ich kann. Doch um sicherzustellen, dass ich keine finanziellen Probleme in meinem letzten Jahr haben werde, fehlt mir noch eine gewisse Summe.

Deswegen bin ich für jede Unterstützung unglaublich dankbar. Jede Spende bringt mich meinem großen Traum ein Stück näher. Auch diese Crowdfundingkampagne zu teilen, ist mir eine große Hilfe.

Hello,

my name is Benjamin Kelm and I am an actor from Saarbrücken. Two years ago I qualified for the "World Championships of Performing Arts" in Los Angeles and was allowed to compete for Germany in acting.

The World Championships were a unique experience and I enjoyed the time very much. Finally I left the competition with six silver medals (highest jury rating) and one industry award.

One day will be remembered forever. I took part in an audition and immediately after the audition I was awarded a scholarship for "The New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts" (Jacob Batalon -Spiderman: Homecoming, Matthew Fox - Lost or Vicky Jeudy - Orange is the new black, they trained there).

I started my studies last year in August and finished my first year successfully. Now I was invited to the second and last year.

The time in New York has really been an adventure so far: Starting with a non-functioning credit card, unpopular "pets", up to a burglary in my apartment.

But many wonderful things also happened, like a spontaneous performance in an improvisational theater, long and extensive explorations in New York, reciting my poems, writing new poems and the beginning of my new book, visiting plays and musicals,... but above all my studies at the "New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts".

It has been an incredibly intense time, but so fulfilling, encouraging and inspiring that every effort has paid off. I know this is my way and I live for acting.

But to graduate in May 2020, I need your help. Because as an international student I am not allowed to work in America and to get an education loan is not possible for me either.

A tuition fee of $32,100 per year is charged. With my scholarship I am guaranteed $12,000 per year. In addition to the tuition fees, I also have to pay for my room and livelihood.

Now I am back in Germany during my semester break and work as much as I can. But to make sure that I won't have any financial problems in my last year, I still lack a certain amount.

Therefore I am incredibly grateful for any support. Every donation brings me closer to my big dream. Sharing this crowdfunding campaign is also a great help to me.
