Greetings,

I trust this message finds you well. I am reaching out to request your kind financial support for a crucial research project on marine protected area management, conservation, and tourism.

My aim is to raise 4'500 Euros to cover costs linked to travel, course fees and accommodation while in Indonesia.

I am currently in my second year of a Master's in Tourism and Sustainable Development at the University of Lausanne. My studies and past experiences have taught me the vital connection between tourism and biodiversity protection.

In March 2024, I plan to spend two months in the Gili Islands, volunteering for my Master's thesis research on sustainable tourism, marine protected area management, and biodiversity conservation.

This research holds immense personal significance and could potentially pave the way for a future PhD on marine protected area management in Southeast Asia. The urgent global biodiversity crisis emphasizes the need to re-evaluate our approach to tourism, especially in ecologically sensitive areas like the Gili Islands.

Your financial assistance is crucial to cover travel expenses, the intensive coral conservation certification course with Gili Eco-Trust that I will complete, and other necessary costs essential for the success of this research endeavour.

In appreciation of your support, I will share the completed thesis with you in September 2024, as well as regular updates along the way with pictures from my field research.

I am enthusiastic about the positive impact that this research can have as coral reef conservation is vital for the survival of humanity and I feel it is my responsibility to act and find solutions through research.

I sincerely hope you will consider supporting this critical endeavour and for more information on Gili Eco Trust and their mission to save Indonesia’s reefs you can visit: https://giliecotrust.com/biorock/

Thank you immensely for your support.

With my kind regards,

Ella Demesy
