Bonjour, Je m'appelle Gaëlle et je suis une geek depuis aussi longtemps que je me souvienne! Je suis aussi la maman de 24 perruches dont 7 Kakariki de Nouvelle-Zelande et je suis une grande fan des kakapo!

Hi, my name is Gaëlle, I'm a french geek since a child and I'm also a Crazy Bird lady with 24 parakeets of various species including 7 Red-Fronted Kakariki from New Zealand... and of course I'm a great fan of Kakapo!

En tant que geek je participe tous les ans au Towel Day (le 25 mai) pour célébrer un des plus brillants auteurs de la culture Geek, Douglas Adams! Et en tant que passionnée des oiseaux je donne régulièrement à diverses associations, refuges et organisations qui consacrent leurs efforts à sauver et protéger les oiseaux, tous les oiseaux... Pour les kakapo, j'ai parrainé Kuia et participé à la levée de fond pour le futur Kakaporium!

As a geek, I'm part of the Towel Day (the 25th of may) every year, wearing proudly my towel and some D20 and saying quotes from H2G2 and Star Wars, Star Trek, LoTR or Firefly (or more nerdy, from the Iain M. Banks Cuture novels) even at my work to celebrate the life of Douglas adams and my pride to be what I am. As a BirdNerd I give regularly to founds and shelters, in France or worlwide... as the World Parrot Trust or by fostering a bird, like my Daughter-on-net Kuia at the Kakapo Recovery!

Cette raison c'est une émission: Last Chance to See! Une série documentaire sur des espèces en grand danger d'extinction.

And the reason why is called Last Chance to See, a documentary about threatened species written and presented by Douglas Adams and Marc Cawardine on BBC. 

Le 4 octobre 1989, Douglas Adams et Marc Carwardine, grâce à la BBC, présentent au monde un drôle de perroquet qui ne vole pas et qui vit la nuit, le Kakapo de Nouvelle-Zélande!

the 4th of october 1989, Douglas Adams and Marc Cawardine presented a curious parrot to the  round as a full moon, smelling honey, nocturnal and ground dwelling ... A kakapo!

Le 4 octobre 2009 (oui les anglais ont le sens des anniversaires!), Stephen Fry, acteur, présentateur, auteur, et plein d'autres choses mais aussi et surtout ami de Douglas Adams, rencontre à son tour, toujours avec Marc Cawardine, un kakapo pour le "remake" de Last Chance to See... Durant le tournage où les rangers du kakapo Recovery présentèrent leur petit protégé, celui-ci, Sirocco, décida que la tête de Marc Cawardine était fort sexy... et tenta, avec beaucoup d'enthousiasme, de s'accoupler avec la dite tête! Ce passage fit le tour du web avec plus 700 000 vues en une semaine, plus de deux millions un an plus tard. Le succès fut tel que les néo-zélandais en prirent judicieusement le parti et nommèrent Sirocco, Porte-Parole Officiel de la Conservation (Official Spokesbird for Conservation) quelques mois plus tard en janvier 2010!

the 4th october 2009... so exactly twenty years later... Stephen Fry (I hope you all know who is Stephen Fry!) and Marc Cawardine remaded Last Chance to See and met another kakapo... A young individual, even more special than all other kakapo... His name was Sirocco! Sirocco was raised by humans as he was ill during the first weeks of his life... He is imprinted by humans and prefer them to others kakapo... And it seemed that he thought Marc Cawardine very sexy as he attempted to mate with his head! this "incident"... described as "One of the funniest things I've ever seen. You are being shagged by a rare parrot!" by Stephen Fry became an instant hit and made the news all around the world and more than 700 000 views on Youtube in less than a week! A year later it was 2 million people who had viewed it! Sirocco's fame was quickly used by New Zealand and in January 2010, the NZ Prime Minister John Key appointed Sirocco to become the Official Spokebird for Conservation... Today, each official event with Sirocco is crowded with people who want to meet their "Very Special Official Parrot"!

Les kakapo sont peu nombreux, il y a en tout à cette heure, 123 adultes.

Kakapo are very rare as there is only 123 adults birds!

Mais cette année les kakapo se sont démenés (ainsi que leurs rangers et les volontaires du KR) et il y a actuellement 36 oisillons!

2016 is a great year for kakapo as they had 36 healthy chicks! It's the best recorded year!

Sauver les kakapo (et en fait sauver la biodiversité de leur environnement) demande beaucoup d'argent aussi cette cagnotte est là pour contribuer à cette sauvegarde tout en rendant hommage à un homme de Bien.

The Kakapo Recovery is saving the kakapo but also all biodiversity of the islands where kakapo live, when you donate for kakapo you donate for all the lives of Codfish Island/Wenua Hou, Anchor Island/Puke Nui and Little Barrier Island/Hauturu.
