Victor's Fish Farm Project

Please watch Victor's Elevator Pitch below for more information about his motivation and intentions for his micro-enterprise: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3EsMbvu7fp8  Background Victor is a young subsistence cocoa farmer, he has been a dedicated Youth Cooperative member in his remote, rural community of Oke-Agbede in Ijesha, Osun State, Nigeria and, as such, has received trainings and mentorship from VSO ICS inline with their Enterprise Development project in the region, including trainings on; Village Saving and Loan Associate, Youth Cooperative, Market Access, Self-Confidence & Self-Marketing etc.Over the past year Victor has exhibited and utilized great energy and commitment to the community, personal and entrepreneurial projects which he has spearheaded as the President of the Youth Cooperative. Victor is now using the knowledge which he has learnt, the skills he has honed and the money he has fundraised through cocoa nurseries and soap making to set-up his own micro-scale catfish business. State-of-play & Purpose for Crowdfunding Victor currently has sixty fingerling catfish which he has medicated and transferred to his fish pond which he has excavated and constructed near a local river himself. Victor has enough feed for his fish, for the following two months. Catfish can be sold for profit from anywhere upwards of four months (on average, sold according to weight). Therefore, the first priority for Victor is for him to bolster the money he has earned through the sale of his cocoa, orange, tangelo and pepper nurseries in order to ensure he can afford to feed his fish well up to six months; securing himslef a good profit margin. Business Forecast Victor's sixty juveniles are serving as a demonstration in order for him to learn with a manageable scale of enterprise and to improve his knowledge. During this period which your funds would be contributing to support, Victor will remain under the mentorship of VSO ICS and the training and capacity building which they step down, through visits to successful youth catfish farms to workshops from technical trainers, Victor will continue to learn and seek advice from professionals. Once the first harvest of fish have been sold, to a market which Victor has already made connections with as part of his market-access training, Victor is then looking at scaling up his business at a manageable pace. Two factors will effect the scaling up process for Victor; the first being the amount of funds he can generate on this platform, as he will set aside N20,000 (£55) to cover the food costs. The remaining funds will go towards the second harvest of fish - alongside the revenue which he sees from the first harvest sale. The second factor is the preparations for expansion which Victor will have to undertake as a result of his learning and evaluate with the support of professionals and his own experience. Both of these factors will consequently impact the size by which Victor can scale up. It is important though that he will not scale up faster than his capacity as is often the mistake before sufficient experience is gained - the advice he will receive will no doubt support this. What it is all really about...  Starting a micro-enterprise unlike any other in his area presents him with multiple opportunities. The first of which is evidently the improvement in access to education and improved living standards himself and his family with a more secure livlihood on which to rely. The second driving factor for Victor is the waves he hopes to make by continuing to add weight to his communities arguement that they produce several key produce for Nigeria as it is fighting for more people to produce made in Nigeria goods. Yet, despite thier value to the economy they are not encouraged to remain in such resource rich rural locations due to the fact that the government does not provide them with access to basic necessities such as a road or electricity. This also in turn limits thier capacity to expand

HELP ME HELP OTHERS

HELP ME HELP OTHERS

“You can’t climb the ladder of success with your hands in your pockets.” This anonymous quote has centred my education and further career. The idea of striving for the best, using hard work is what I believe my personality reflects upon. The prospect field of research, particularly, in virology for infectious diseases is relatively new and strangely unique, with much exploration needed; making it very appealing to satisfy my hunger for dedication and challenges. The Malaysian research is the purpose of my fundraising. The research interest for this placement is on anti-dengue activity and drug discovery from natural products. It will be taking place in Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang during summer holidays from the 30th May – 28th August 2017. This placement is an exceptional opportunity to sharpen my scientific skills, constructing an international network and gaining experiences of lifestyle and culture of a foreign country, opening multiple doors for my future career. It would definitely shape me as a young scientist, perpetuating my fire of accomplishing a PhD in the future. According to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2014, a large dengue outbreak occurred in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, which is my home country, making anti-dengue research very dear to my heart. Having witnessed my sister and couple of my friends suffer from the dengue fever was traumatising, igniting my passion, courage and enthusiasm to indulge in virus-infectious pathogenesis. The skills attained from the placement would certainly make me competent, compatible, and congruent for my further education in the upcoming field of my choice, building me as a strong, and vital member of the society. This fundraising is aimed for the minimum of £700 in which these funds will be used to cover the cost of orientation, registration, accommodation and the laboratory working equipment. The opportunity to be granted with the possible donations would help me prosper in the Malaysian prospect of experience abroad and would escalate my communications and adapting skills making me more flexible with the circumstances, adapting and problem-solving skills. Equipping me to become a young leader and an excellent team player, flexible with the circumstances and giving me a chance to learn a new culture and lifestyle with a possible expectation of visiting an awesome place!Project Insight: NATURAL PRODUCTS AS SOURCE OF POTENTIAL DENGUE ANTIVIRALS There is no clinically approved dengue vaccine or antivirals for humans. The treatment of the disease solely depends on pain relief pills, fluid replenishments, and bed rest.Different approaches have been used in the search for dengue antivirals; screening of compounds against dengue enzymes and structure-based computational discovery. Recent studies have focused on identification of compounds from ‘nature’ that can be used as dengue antivirals. It is an extraordinary reservoir that can be used directly as pharmaceuticals or serve as templates that can be optimised towards the development of new therapeutic agents.Several plants around the world present anti-dengue potential antiviral activity. African and Asian countries depend on traditional medicine as their primary health care due to economic and geographic constraints. Project aim: Identification of compounds from plants with antiviral dengue activity isolated from plants and other natural sources.

GENDER1010

DEAREST FRIENDS, FAMILY, ARTY FOLK, AND GENDER REBELS........ I have been working collaboratively with a group of individuals who self define in different positions on a spectum of gender to produce a work that examines gender experience. The work is intended to evoke, to confront, to make uncomfortable, and to inform. I am asking for support for the works initial installation and so that the work can exist beyond this, and be taken to future events. The demo reel to present to exhibition, and educational spaces that may be interested in the work is below. Please take a look and continue to read...   The individuals working on this project are committed to seeing its development. To make this possible funds need to be raised for technical equipment, building materials, and health and safety equipment for installations. Funds also need to be raised for future filming to further develop the work, and include a more diverse range of participants and consider the intersections of racial identity, disability and age, with gender identity.  With a first installation complete, it will be possible to apply to funding bodies, who may wish to support the evolution of the work, and see it become a permanently available piece.     If you are able to, any support you can offer would be greatly appreciated, and will make an enormous difference to the future of the project. The piece has been developed whist stuying at the University of Arts, London. It will be available to view at Camberwell, UAL between June 17th and 24th. You are welcome to view the work and any feed back you have is welcomed. Please take a look at the video, and contribute using the tab to the right if you wish to. EXPOSITION CREOLE SOUL

EXPOSITION CREOLE SOUL

Nepal Volunteering - EOS

Nepal Volunteering - EOS

Welcome to this money pot for my Nepal project ------- Français en dessous ------- Hello !  I'm Quentin Chometon, former intern in the clinical team of EOS Imaging. During my two internships in EOS, I had the chance to learn a lot about the medical field thanks to both the multiple collaborations with different surgeons and the everyday contact with EOS members and more especially with the clinical team managed by Elisabeth Soubelet. During this time I work on different clinical studies in France but also in New York. My interest in the medical field grew a lot thanks to this year of internship with EOS and the numerous exchanges I had with EOS and medical staff. Nowaday, I am following the Medical Engineering master in KTH University in order to learn more about this field to work in it later. I have always been a caring person, and this year, I decided to get involved in order to try to change things in the developping countries. So, I applied and have been accepted to the summer Institute in Nepal organized by EWH (Engineering World Health). With other students from different European Universities, I will go to local hospitals in Nepal during 6 weeks. Nepal is considered as one of the poorest country in the world especially after the devasting earthquake in April 2015. Our mission will be to repair and install some medical equipments in the hospital in order to improve the treatment of the patients. We will also work in close collaboration with the local staff in order to train them in the maintenance of the different equipment.  Participating in such a program represents a large financial burden. I would really appreciate your support in my project. Thanks to EOS Imaging, every euros that is given by a member of the company will result in an additional euro given by EOS Imaging. You can of course give however much you want and all payments are secure. Thank you for your support and for helping me in this amazing project. You can find more information about our project on our blog or facebook page : - https://healthimalaya.wordpress.com/ - https://www.facebook.com/healthimalaya/ Best wishes,Quentin Chometon ------- Français -------Bonjour !

Welcome to this money pot !Click to make a contribution.* Give however much you want.* All payments are secure Hi Guys Im not the best at doing this kind of thing as my pride gets in the way, However I have a project that will help me professionally. As many of you know I am a flustist and started playing at the age of 12. I advanced very quickly and within my 3rd year of playing I had achieved my grade 8 exams and was accepted to study a bachelor of music in flute performance at Auckland university. I have spent many years lost not knowing what to do, Working in retail, restaurants etc. Now Im in Paris and have had the opportunity to return my studies and really make a go of music as my career. I am currently studying in Paris with an amazing American teacher and will sit my DipABRSM exams (1st step diploma professionally) on the 15th of june after just 9 months of return to study and 4-5 hours a day of practise. I am currently looking for work here in Paris but am finding it hard as my french is not amazing. I hope to start getting students to teach flute and work part time probably back in retail and maybe small gigs to fund my lessons and masterclasses and future exams in the coming years. Not to mention daily living costs. This project is to fund a new semi professional flute so I can continue to advance and develop. I currently play on a student model flute that no longer allows me to push my technique and develop further. Please, If you can give me a hand and donate to this money pot and if you have any questions I will be happy to answer. There is no maximum or minimum amount anything will be appreciated. And of course I will definately keep you all updated on my progress. Thank you so much to all of you for your support. Chris

Funding for an E-book series for Personal development and starting a business

Funding for an E-book series for Personal development and starting a business

Hi,My name is Julika Novkova, I am an Industrial and Organizational Psychologist and Certified Personal Business Trainer. I have been studying human behavior and personality for more than 10 years. My professional mission As a Certified Personal Business Trainer, I lead individual sessions with freelancers, entrepreneurs, and middle and TOP-level managers. My work focuses on the development of training programs, specializing in business running and management.I train my clients and help them learn and apply new skills and knowledge. I also show them the road to self-motivation and teach them how to cope with stress.Learning is a life-long process and my mission is to help those people with their personal development so they can achieve their goals and enjoy success. The upcoming E-book series for personal & business development Currently, I am working on a professional self-help E-book series for personal and business development. The first E-book is already finished and contains a 10-step model for starting a business, designed by me. I have been developing for years successful business models for founders, CEO-s, coaches, consultants, trainers and freelancers. Most of the E-books on the market, dedicated to this topic, are very expensive and with a relatively generic content. My E-books incorporate the latest psychological theories, interpreted as behavior models. In other words, I use scientific foundation to develop self-help training models for personal and business growth, which every non-specialist could use by himself. The E-books will be written in an understandable manner and will include proposals how to solve certain problems and how to handle difficult situations. Every model in the E-books is based on my work, my experience, and my know-how as a business trainer and psychologist. The E-books could serve as a good starting point on the road to achieving personal goals and searching for happiness. The first proffesional E-book frome the series is completed and I am working on the upcoming. But before I could publish them, they must be translated and edited by professionals. Furthermore, for the E-books’ cover, I will have to hire a professional cover designer. I hope, that I will raise funds for these books because I love my job and have plans for writing other E-books as well. Costs and fundingEvery E-book will be written in the Bulgarian language because I live in Sofia, Bulgaria and part of my clients are locals. I use my models with them as well. Therefore, the E-books must be translated and edited. Moreover, I will need a specialist for cover design. No funding for publishing will be required because I am going to publish my E-books in Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing. The total funding I need for publishing one professional self-help E-book is € 1000.That includes the translation and editing of 10 000 words (the approximate size of one E-book), cover design of the books, and the fees and taxations. So, I need minimum € 1000 to make the knowledge and professional know-how accessible to all people who actually need them. The rest part is easy and most of the job is already done! I hope that my mission to share needed knowledge and know-how, will find a support and soon I will be able to publish my finished E-books for self-help and personal development.I will send you a free copy of the E-books after the publishing in Amazon Kindle as gratitude. Thank you for taking your time to read this! Sincerely yours, P.S.
