LET'S START GIVING TO SAVE MALAGASY CULTURE

LET'S START GIVING TO SAVE MALAGASY CULTURE

The island nation of Madagascar is unique in its language, biology, geography, music and mixture of Asian, Arabic and African ethnic origins, which has created 18 diverse, but unified tribes.  Traditional ethnic and regional cultures are threatened by global mass media, and lack of living and dynamic archives.  Our intended project creates a MULTIMEDIA and COMMUNICATION STUDIO to preserve traditional Malagasy culture using a variety of medium:  books, photos, pamphlets, podcasts, recordings and documentaries done in a professional manner using international standards.  The project is primarily targeted at local Malagasy folklorists, but may also be used by school children, teachers, families, and foreign “Madagascarologists” who wish to study our Malagasy ethnic cultures. NEED FOR THE PROJECTMany local and foreign people want to know the authentic Malagasy traditions in our ethnic groups whose cultures are at risk of being forgotten or disappearing completely.  The project will generate a living library of Malagasy ethnic cultures to preserve and propagate for community-level action, enjoyment and higher-level research. STARTING PROJECTS* Folk tales: We will collect well-known folk tales by ethnic dialect in a book with illustrations captioned in Official Malagasy, as well as English and French translation. * Culture:  Documentation of traditional events in photos, videos, books never before recorded and professionally produced [such as Bilo (ritual to awake the spirit), Tsaboraha (sacrificial ceremony)].* Speech: audio recordings, writing, translation (book)We will start with a folk tale book project in the Betsimisaraka South region of east-central Madagascar by collecting folk tales (called Tapasira) in the towns Vatomandry, Marolambo, Mahanoro, Brickaville, Antanambao-Manampotsy from village elders and story tellers. Then, we will translate the ethnic dialects into Official Malagasy, English and French. The illustrations will be done by local artists in traditional ethnic styles and colors.  Editing and printing will be procured in Madagascar, and we will sell the products to support the STUDIO. Following the Betsimisaraka South work, we will systematically collect cultural folk tales for all 18 tribes in Madagascar.  WHAT DO WE NEED?* Collaboration:  financial and intellectual support and input from organizations or individualizes very welcome for part or the entirety of the folktale project. * Needs: We need professional quality equipment and materials, such as camera, audio recorder or laptop. OTHER SERVICES WE WILL OFFER?* Provide information about Madagascar’s ethnic culture, lifestyle, diversity and language.* Translation, research or contextual information on ethnic Malagasy cultural tales, songs, stories, dances, culinary traditions, festivals, and arts. * We can assist foreigners who want to do cultural research in Madagascar, and we can accompany them and identify the best locations and local human resources available. HOW MUCH IT WILL COST? (FOLK TALES)* Equipments: ($2519)- 2 Laptops: $968x2- Scanner (Epson WorkForce DS-30 Portable Scanner): $63- Graphic tablet (wacom intuos): $350- 2 audio recorders (Zoom ZH1 H1 digital recorder): $85x2* Site visit travel to collect Betsimisaraka South folk tales (20 days):  $729                     Total: $3248 HOW TO CONTACT US?* Tojosoa Raherinirainy (Betsileo and Bara specialist):   Illustrator and multimedia operator. D.N.W. The Monument - re-creation and film

D.N.W. The Monument - re-creation and film

Deeds Not Words – call for support Throughout 2018 D.N.W. has created three short, fantastical films to mark 100 years since the Representation of the People Act passed, granting some women in the UK the right to vote. Like 21st Century Suffragettes we’ve been using creative daring to honour our heroines both from the past and present. Viewed by approximately XXXX people, these viral films have energised a new wave of activists with a shared vision for gender equality, celebrating all that the Suffragettes achieved. We need your help to film our final and most ambitious episode. With support from Amnesty International and the City of London, we will re-enact one of the most iconic moments from the Suffragette movement: when Miss Spark and Mrs Shaw climbed to the top of the Monument in London, tied a banner "Death or Victory" to its railings, unveiled the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU) flag, and released hundreds of leaflets promoting the Votes for Women campaign to supporters below. On 14 December 2018 (the 100th anniversary of the Representation of the People Act) we will recreate and film this significant moment. The episode will feature the Suffragette flag weaving its way stealth-like into the base of the Monument and scale the spiral stairway, where at the top metres and metres of violet, white and green will cascade like a waterfall onto the street below.  As the flag billows dramatically in the wind like a living, breathing sculpture - we will capture the audacious creativity of the suffragettes in a memorable and poetic way. We now need to raise £10,000 to create and film this final episode. With our partner Amnesty International, this specular stunt will not only draw significant media coverage, but it will embolden the spirit of the Suffragettes to a local and global audiences through both the live event and viral film. This is a call for your support. Death or Victory. Pledge your support.D.N.W.
