STEPS OF STATISTICAL ANALYSIS IN A THESIS!
Statistical analysis is an important part of the thesis, as it allows us to draw conclusions that may be true for the whole population. Performing different statistical analyses requires a lot of care, as it is not enough to know the questionnaire and the method, you also need to know how to use the software that performs the analysis.
- Aim of the research, formulation of hypotheses
Statistical analysis in a thesis starts with a description essay assistant of the aim of the research and the formulation of the hypotheses. It is important to know what you are researching, because you can choose the research method, the statistical procedure and the statistical program according to the aim.
- Choice of research method
Once the research objective is clear and the hypotheses have been formulated, we can choose the research method that will be most effective in investigating the topic. The most popular research methods include questionnaires, in-depth interviews and observation. Any research method is suitable for statistical analysis in a thesis, as the key lies in the coding of the data, but this will be discussed later.
- Conducting research
Once the research method has been chosen, the research is carried out. In your thesis, write a short summary of the research setting.
- Database cleaning
Part of the processing of the data obtained during the research is database cleaning, coding the data and creating the database. During the database cleaning process, we need to assess the value of the data obtained. If there are any questionnaires that have not been fully completed, or have been sent twice by the same respondent, they will be deleted, as these 'errors' may distort the results. Database cleaning is an important part of the statistical analysis in our thesis, but it is not covered in our thesis.
- Coding data
Coding data means converting text responses into numbers. Since statistical programs can only process numbers, coding is essential. In the research part of our thesis, we can show which textual data have been converted into numerical data.
- Creating a database
After coding the data, let us create the database. The database consists of rows and columns. The columns contain the variables and the rows contain the answers given by the respondents. Of course, creating a database is also background work, so readers of this thesis should not be burdened with the presentation of huge databases.
- Defining statistical procedures
However, the statistical procedures chosen should already be described in the thesis. The most popular statistical methods are regression, point and interval estimation and correlation, but other descriptive or mathematical statistical methods can be chosen if the topic requires it.
Statistical analysis is a very important part of our thesis, so we should choose carefully the statistical procedure that is most useful to answer our hypotheses.
- Choosing a statistical program
The most popular statistical analysis programs are SPSS, eViews, Polystat, Matlab and Excel. You have probably used one of these during your studies. However, if you are not sure how to use the software, feel free to ask your tutor or buy evaluation essay fellow students for help.
In your thesis, be sure to indicate which software you used to carry out the study.
- Presentation and evaluation of results
Present and evaluate the results in tables and graphs. Evaluation means looking for correlations and drawing conclusions from the results. In this section we also answer our hypotheses.
Statistical analysis in a thesis ends with a summary. All that is left to do is to summarise the results obtained, highlighting the most relevant, the most surprising and the most interesting.
