Walk 1000 miles in one year? Why not! When Linda and Emma saw the #Walk1000miles challenge, they had the bright idea of using it to raise money for their local animal shelter based in SW France. Some of our other volunteers also thought they might like to join in too. Get fit, enjoy the countryside, walk some dogs, raise money ... it's a win-win!The Refuge de l'Angoumois is one of the largest shelters in France, accepting over 1000 animals a year. It exists only through the support of local community funding and donations. Having had one of the community funds cut for the foreseeable future to the tune of 25000€ a year, the budget is tighter than ever and depends more than ever on donations.
Many times, money cannot help. It doesn't clean up dog poo very well. Its interest as a cat toy lasts only seconds. However, it can help fund staff, buy animal food and pay for veterinary care, the three biggest expenditures at the shelter. As the national austerity budget threatens to drag on for many more years to come, we need your help and your money to ensure our animals get the best care we can offer.
